Batch Actions

Estimated reading: 3 minutes

The Batch Actions page provides a centralized view of all bulk operations performed across the Control Plane. Batch actions allow users to execute operations on multiple records simultaneously, reducing manual effort and enabling efficient processing of large datasets. Common batch actions include adding observations to datasets, deleting traces, and adding items to annotation queues.

Batch actions are typically used when the same operation needs to be applied to multiple records at once. For example, users can add a collection of observations to a dataset, delete multiple traces, or add multiple records to an annotation queue in a single operation instead of processing each record individually.

Batch actions are processed asynchronously in the background so that large operations do not interrupt normal platform usage.

Permissions: Users with the Owner, Admin, or Member role can create, edit, and manage batch actions. Users with the Viewer role can view batch action records but cannot create, modify, or execute batch actions.

Batch Actions List

The Batch Actions list displays all bulk operations along with their execution status and related details.

Column Description
Action Type Specifies the type of bulk operation that was performed.
Table Specifies the table on which the batch action was executed.
Status Indicates the current state of the batch action, such as Processing, Completed, or Failed.
Progress Displays the completion progress of the batch action.
Created Specifies the date and time when the batch action was initiated.
Finished Specifies the date and time when the batch action completed.
Created By Specifies the user who initiated the batch action.
Log Displays processing logs and any messages associated with the batch action.

How to Perform a Batch Action

Batch actions can be performed from any supported page in the Control Plane where multiple records can be selected. The steps below walk through the most common batch actions: adding observations to a dataset, deleting traces, and adding items to an annotation queue.

Adding Observations to a Dataset

1. Navigate to the page containing the observations (for example, the Tracing page).
2. Select the observations you want to add. You can select individual records or use filters to narrow down the dataset before selecting.
3. Click Add to Dataset.
4. Choose the target dataset or create a new one.
5. Confirm the action.

Deleting Traces

1. Navigate to the Tracing page.
2. Select the traces you want to delete. You can select individual traces or use filters to narrow down the dataset before selecting.
3. Click Delete.
4. Confirm the deletion when prompted.

Adding Items to an Annotation Queue

1. Navigate to the page containing the items (for example, the Tracing page).
2. Select the items you want to add to the annotation queue. You can select individual items or use filters to narrow down the dataset before selecting.
3. Click Add to Annotation Queue.
4. Choose the target annotation queue or create a new one.
5. Confirm the action.

Once submitted, the batch action is added to the Batch Actions list with a status of Processing, and its progress can be tracked from the Progress column. When the action completes, the status updates to Completed, and the Finished column is populated with the completion timestamp. If the action encounters an error, the status updates to Failed, and details can be reviewed in the Log column.
