Get Blob

Estimated reading: 3 minutes

The Get Blob activity retrieves a specified blob from an Azure Blob Storage container. It allows you to provide the container and blob details and retrieve the blob information for use in subsequent workflow steps.

Fields in Activity Canvas

Container Name: Specifies the name of the Azure Blob Storage container that contains the blob to retrieve. Enter the value as a String.

Blob Name: Specifies the name or path of the blob to retrieve. Enter the value as a String.

Properties

MISC

Display Name: Specifies the display name of the activity. The default value is Get Blob.

Skip On Error: Specifies whether the workflow continues execution when the blob retrieval operation fails.
False: The workflow stops execution and throws an error.
True: The workflow ignores the error and continues with the next activity.

Timeout: Specifies the maximum time, in milliseconds, allowed for the blob retrieval operation before a timeout error is thrown. The default value is 30000 milliseconds.

Version: Displays the package version of the activity.

OUTPUT

Blob: Create a variable to store the retrieved blob. The variable is populated after the blob is retrieved successfully and can be used to access the blob details in subsequent workflow steps.

Result: Returns a Boolean value indicating the execution status of the activity.
True: The activity executed successfully.
False: The activity failed due to an unexpected error.

Example

The following example illustrates how to use the Get Blob activity to retrieve a blob from an Azure Blob Storage container. In this example, the sample.pdf blob is retrieved from the SourceContainer container.

Steps to Execute the Bot

1. Drag and drop an Azure Scope activity into the workflow.
2. Enter the Account Name and Account Key to establish a connection with Azure Blob Storage.
3. Drag and drop the Get Blob activity inside the Azure Scope.
4. Click the Get Blob activity.
5. In Container Name, enter the name of the container containing the blob as a String. Here, it is “SourceContainer”.
6. In Blob Name, enter the name or path of the blob to retrieve as a String. Here, it is “sample.pdf”.
7. Create a variable and assign it to the Blob output to store the retrieved blob.
8. Create a variable and assign it to the Result output to store the execution status.
9. Drag and drop a Write Log activity below the Azure Scope activity.|
10. Enter the result variable followed by .ToString in the Input field of the Write Log activity. For example, Result.ToString.
11. Set the Log Level to Info.
12. Execute the workflow.

The bot executes the activity and retrieves the specified blob from the Azure Blob Storage container. The Blob output contains the retrieved blob information, and the Result output returns True when the activity executes successfully.

Note: The specified container and blob must exist in the configured Azure Blob Storage account for the activity to retrieve the blob successfully.
