UI Record Scope

Estimated reading: 3 minutes

This Scope is a container activity that defines the execution context for one or more recording activities within a workflow.

When added to a workflow, it automatically contains one recording activity. Additional instances can be added within the same container to create and manage multiple test cases.

Each activity represents a test case. The scope allows users to organize these into a single logical unit and manage their execution during runtime.

The container provides several options to simplify management and improve automation reliability, including:

a. Settings – Manage the execution and configuration status of individual activities within the scope.
b. Auto Heal – Configure selector matching strategies to improve element identification when application UI elements change.

Managing UI Record Scope

Within the UI Record Scope, the following options are available:

Options

Option Description
Add UI Recorder Adds a new UI Recorder activity to the current scope, allowing you to create additional test cases.
Settings Opens the Settings page, where you can manage the execution and configuration status of activities within the scope.
Auto Heal Opens the Auto Heal settings page, where you can configure selector matching strategies for activities within the scope.

Note: The Settings and Auto Heal options become available after at least one UI Recorder activity is added to the scope.

Settings

The Settings page allows you to manage all UI Recorder activities within the selected container. It displays every UI Recorder activity added to the scope and provides the following options

Activity Configuration Status

Option Description
Active Determines whether the activity is executed during workflow runtime.
Configured Determines whether the activity is configured for runtime.

Managing Activities

a. Enable Active to execute the activity during workflow runtime.
b. Disable Active to exclude the activity from execution.
c. Enable Configured to configure the activity for runtime.
d. Disable Configured to remove the activity from runtime configuration.

This allows you to manage the execution and configuration status of individual activities within the UI Recorder Scope.

Auto Heal

The Auto Heal option allows you to configure selector matching strategies for all UI Recorder activities within the scope. During automation execution, UI elements may change due to updated attributes, modified layouts, dynamic identifiers, or application updates. When the original selector cannot locate a target element, Auto Heal uses the enabled selector strategies to identify the element using alternative matching methods.

By providing additional element identification mechanisms, Auto Heal helps reduce execution failures caused by UI changes and minimizes the need for manual selector updates.

Selector Matching Process

During execution, Robility first attempts to identify the UI element using the primary selector.

If the element cannot be located, the enabled Auto Heal selector strategies are used to identify the element using alternative matching methods.

Selector Strategies

Strategy Description Recommended For
Strict Selector Identifies UI elements using exact attribute matching. Enabled by default and cannot be disabled. Stable applications with consistent UI attributes.
Anchor Element Uses nearby UI elements as reference points to locate the target element. Applications with stable layouts and element relationships.
Wildcard Selector Uses partial attribute matching to identify UI elements. Applications with dynamic attributes that follow predictable patterns.
Fuzzy Selector Uses approximate matching to identify elements when attribute values change slightly. Applications with frequently changing UI attributes.
Image Selector Uses image recognition to locate UI elements based on their visual appearance. Applications where selector-based identification is unreliable or unavailable.
