Skill Management

Estimated reading: 7 minutes

Skill Management is a centralized interface in Robility Flow for managing the Skills available to the Deep Agent. It provides a structured catalog of reusable capabilities that the Deep Agent can discover and use to perform tasks.

A Skill is a reusable capability that can contain executable scripts, tools, configuration files, documentation, and other supporting files required to perform a specific task.

Skill Management allows users to organize Skills by category and Skills added to the platform can be used only through the Deep Agent component.

You can access Skill Management from the menu in the Robility Flow canvas.

How Skills Work

The Deep Agent uses LLM-based reasoning to understand the user’s instruction, plan the required actions, and use available Skills to perform the task.

The execution flow is:

User Instruction → Deep Agent Planner → Skill Management Registry → Skill Execution

For example, a Skill may provide the scripts and supporting files required to process documents. When the Deep Agent determines that the task requires that capability, it can discover and invoke the relevant Skill during execution.

Example

Suppose a user asks the Deep Agent to process a document.

1. The Deep Agent interprets the user’s request.
2. It identifies the capability required to complete the task.
3. The required Skill is available through the Skill Management registry.
4. The Deep Agent invokes the Skill to perform the required operation.

This allows Skills to provide reusable capabilities without requiring the user to build the same functionality for each task.

Important: Skills added to the platform can be used only through the Deep Agent component.

Skill, Tool, and Deep Agent

The following terms describe different parts of the Skill execution model:

Key Terms

Term Description
Skill A reusable capability available to the Deep Agent, consisting of one or more executable scripts, Tools, and supporting files required to perform a specific task.
Tool An executable capability or resource referenced by a Skill. A Tool performs a discrete function, such as invoking an API, running a script, or accessing a data source.
Deep Agent The system component responsible for interpreting user instructions, planning the sequence of actions required, and invoking the appropriate Skills to complete a task.
Skill Management The interface used to create, configure, update, and organize Skills available to the Deep Agent.

A Skill provides the reusable capability, while the Deep Agent uses that capability to perform the required task.

Skill Discovery

Skill Management maintains a centralized registry of Skills available to the Deep Agent.

Skills in the registry are organized into categories based on their purpose and area of use, enabling the Deep Agent to identify relevant capabilities during task planning and execution.

What You Can Do in Skill Management

The available actions depend on whether the Skill is a Default Skill or a Custom Skill.

Custom Skills

Authorized project members can manage Custom Skills, including viewing, editing, deleting, and exporting them as a ZIP file, as well as adding, uploading, and deleting individual files or folders within a Skill, and saving changes after editing.

The following Skill details cannot be modified: Skill Name, Category, and Type.

Skill content is displayed in read-only format; however, the file and folder structure can be modified when editing a Custom Skill.

Custom Skills are scoped to the project in which they are created. Only members of that project can edit, delete, or export a given Custom Skill. A Custom Skill added to Project A is not accessible or visible in Project B, even when both projects belong to the same tenant.

Default Skills

Default Skills are system-provided capabilities included in the Skill catalog and available across all tenants and projects. They are displayed in read-only format, and users cannot edit or delete them. The only action available is Export, which exports the Skill as a ZIP file.

Skill Types and Scope

Skill Management provides two types of Skills:

Skill Types

Skill Type Scope Purpose Available Actions
Default Skill Global — available across all tenants and projects. Provides out-of-the-box system capabilities. View and export.
Custom Skill Project-scoped — restricted to the project where it is added. Provides enterprise-specific scripts, custom APIs, and internal workflow automation capabilities. View, edit, delete, and export.

Skill Categories

Skill Categories organize Skills according to their purpose and area of use. They make Skills easier to identify and help the Deep Agent identify relevant capabilities during task planning and execution.

Skill Categories

Category Description
Research & Analysis Find, collect, analyze, and summarize information from different sources.
Banking Automate common banking and financial-service processes, such as account validation, financial message processing, loan verification, and transaction reconciliation.
Communication Send messages and notifications through email, chat, and other communication platforms.
Document Processing Read, extract, create, modify, and convert information in different document formats.
Data & Database Access, query, transform, and manage data stored in databases and other structured formats.
Developer & Engineering Support software development, scripting, source-code management, and DevOps activities.
Web & Browser Automation Automate tasks performed on websites and web applications.
File & Workspace Manage files, folders, and workspace data across local, network, and cloud locations.
Business & Finance Automate common business, accounting, and enterprise processes.
RPA & Automation Automate repetitive tasks and coordinate processes across desktop applications and systems.
AI & Machine Learning Apply AI, LLM, and machine learning capabilities to understand, generate, classify, and analyze information.
Project & Productivity Manage projects, tasks, issues, and team activities.
Security & Compliance Support information protection, access validation, credential validation, and security and compliance activities.
Integration & APIs Connect applications, platforms, and external services through APIs and web-based integrations.
Specialized / Domain Skills Support industry-specific or specialized business requirements.

Managing a Custom Skill

When creating or updating a Custom Skill, you can add individual files or upload a compressed ZIP package.

Within a Skill, you can add files, add folders, upload existing folders, delete individual files or folders, and save changes after editing.

File Upload Requirements

When creating or updating a Skill, you can upload individual files or a compressed .zip package.

The following file types and limits apply:

1. Package Types: Individual files or compressed .zip folders.
2. File Size Limit: Each uploaded file must not exceed 10 MB.
3. Code and Scripts: .py, .js, .cjs, .sh
4. Data and Configuration: .json, .yaml, .yml, .xml, .xsd, .csv
5. Documents: .pdf, .docx, .pptx, .xls, .xlsx, .txt, .md, .license
6. Assets and Media: .png, .jpg, .jpeg, .webp, .svg, .ttf
7. Archives: .zip, .gz

Skill Access and Isolation

Skill access depends on the Skill type and project scope.

1. Default Skills are available across all tenants and projects.
2. Custom Skills are restricted to the project where they are added.
3. A Custom Skill from one project is not visible or accessible from another project.
4. Authorized members of the relevant project can manage its Custom Skills.

Best Practices

Follow these practices when managing Skills:

1. Use a clear Skill name that describes the capability provided by the Skill.
2. Select the appropriate category to make the Skill easier to identify and organize.
3. Keep related files together within the same Skill.
4. Use supported file formats and ensure that each uploaded file is within the 10 MB limit.
5. Use Custom Skills for capabilities specific to a particular project.
6. Review the Skill contents before saving changes.
7. Export Skills when you need a ZIP copy for storage or use outside Skill Management.

Important Notes

1. Skills added to the platform can be used only through the Deep Agent.
2. Default Skills are read-only and cannot be edited or deleted by project users.
3. Custom Skills are restricted to the project where they are added.
4. A Custom Skill is not visible or accessible from another project.
5. Skill Name, Category, and Type cannot be modified when editing a Custom Skill.
6. Skill content is displayed as read-only, while the files and folders within a Custom Skill can be managed through the available editing actions.
7. Each uploaded file must not exceed 10 MB.
